SUPERINTENDENT’S COMMENTS

Board Briefs
November 11, 2008

The Board of Education conducted the following business at its regular meeting last night.

1. Approved the Per Capita State Library Grant from the Secretary of States Office.

2. Received an update on the elementary school construction.
• The project is roughly 40% complete.
• The exterior concrete block work is complete.
• Roughly 50% of the exterior brick work is complete.
• Rubber roof installation is complete.
• Window installation has begun.
• Translucent wall panel installation is complete.
• Mechanical contractors are installing their respective systems.

All in all things are going pretty well. The district is still on track to begin the 2009-2010 school year in the new facility.

3. Approved a resolution setting the total tax levy at $7,239,500 and set the Truth in Taxation hearing for December 8, 2008 at 7:00 pm.

4. Adopted the administrative proposal to implement a remedial summer school program at the high school beginning in the summer of 2009.

5. Authorized a not to exceed amount to repair and replace the exhaust fan and duct work in the Middle School Kitchen.

6. Established a committee consisting of Board Members, administrators, teachers, and community members to develop recommendations for an annual award to a person or persons associated with the Maroa Forsyth School District. The exact criteria will be presented to the Board for approval in the near future.

7. Employed Martin Stupak as High School Assistant Softball Coach.

8. Agreed to post the Middle School Principal/Athletic Director vacancy that was created by the transfer of Dr. Massey to the Curriculum Director position. The application deadline will be January 15, 2009.

9. Agreed to post a K-5 Media Specialist (Librarian) position that will be needed upon completion of the new Maroa Forsyth Grade School.
