I took over as freshmen football coach in 1999. My first nine
seasons have been a lot of fun, mostly due to the great kids
that have come through and because of the coaches I work with.
I've called
the offense at the freshmen level for those eight years, with
various other coaches calling the defense and special teams.
No other coach
has been more important to the freshmen program than
Pat
Hall. Coach Hall has made a positive impact on our teams in many
ways; he is currently the freshmen O-line,
D-line, and special teams coach. His "coaching up" of
the offensive line has made my job calling the offense much easier
the past few
years. Student teachers have been a great source of help, starting
in the 2003 season with Mike Franzese. Mike proclaims himself
as the "Defensive
Coordinator of the Year" at the freshmen level in the state
while he was here. His defense only allowed a few touchdowns
the entire season.
The next
year
brought Chad Cline. Cline also called the defense and allowed
even less points than Franzese, though Franzese will never acknowledge
that fact. In 2005 Brett Miller called the defense and like the
others before him did a great job. In 2006, Jason
Robinson joined the staff and called the defense. For the 2007
season, alum Andrew Bruce came back and called the
defense. Coach Hall, Coach Bruce, and myself are the 2008 freshmen
coaching staff. Taking the year off in 2009.
